Our History
Blakeman Transportation began in 1982 hauling rock, gravel, dirt, sand, etc. locally in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX area. It was in 1988 that BTI changed its course in transportation and began operating as a freight broker. We started with hauling mainly dry freight but within a couple of years, we began getting involved with hauling frozen and refrigerated truckload freight. By chance happening, it was roughly in 1991 that we began performing consolidated shipping (3PL) for the frozen and refrigerated sector and from this we formed a true LTL frozen and refrigerated department delivering product to the 48 contiguous United States and Canada with a true sailing schedule. This is when Blakeman Transportation started making its move as a player in the industry.
Today, BTI not only hauls frozen and refrigerated truck load and LTL shipments but we also haul dry, flatbed, ocean, air, expedited and straight truck shipments just about anywhere you need a shipment delivered. We also offer both dry and refrigerated warehousing with services such as cross-docking, picking/pulling, inventory control and USDA inspection.
We have been an active member of the Transportation Intermediary Association (TIA) since 1995. Through the TIA, we are involved in lobbying in congress for continued improvements in transportation safety, security protection, drivers hours of service, qualification for entry and many other issues pertaining to transportation. Regulation requires that a freight broker maintain a minimum of $10,000 surety bond. BTI maintains a $100,000 bond to show both our clients and carriers that we mean business and stand behind what we do.
